Conceptual Plan for Dandelion Park (9Mb PDF document)

The Molly Fitzgerald Memorial Fund is currently undertaking our largest project to date. We have taken what was an ugly vacant lot in the middle of downtown Marshfield and are turning it into a beautiful park in honor of Molly and all the other children who have died too early. We have named the park Dandelion Park. We don't know why Molly adopted dandelions as her favorite flower but she made recognizing the dandelion a personal cause, celebrating June 9th as "Dandelion Day" and telling her friends and family to, "Have a Dandy Day". We think that sentiment wraps up Molly's personality well. We decided naming the park Dandelion Park in order to carry that positive message forward and give everyone who passes by or visits the park a happy thought and a smile. As Molly would say, "May the Dandies live forever!"

Our site at 1869 Ocean Street in the middle of downtown Marshfield between CVS and Rite Aid was once an overgrown vacant lot containing the ruins of an old gas station. Since we broke ground on our project on June 9th, 2009 (Dandelion Day or course) we have ripped up the old foundations and cleared out the weeds, the rampant wisteria and the poison oak. In their place we have installed new walkways, a shed and a variety of shrubs, perennials and trees. The Christmas tree was decorated and illuminated for the holidays after a well attended tree lighting ceremony at the Park in early December. The Park looks great thanks to the generous efforts of dozens and dozens of people and companies. There is still much more to come- benches and a courtyard with a fountain, a bridge to the South River pathway, sculptures and signage. More trees, perennials and annuals are due in the spring as well. The park looks great but it will look even better by the time we dedicate the park on June 9th of 2010.

We are still actively looking for donations to complete the work we need to do at the park. If you are interested in assisting us in any way please contact us at the address below or donate to us via PayPal. We are also offering memorial bricks that can be engraved in memory of a loved one, no matter the age. Bricks are $100 and will line the walkways of Dandelion Park as a tribute to those who have gone too soon. Forms for ordering the bricks can be found here on the website or you may contact us at the address below and forms can be sent to you.

We are very excited to create what we hope will be a key element in the revitalization of downtown Marshfield. Please check in to see what we are up to. If you have any ideas you want to offer feel free to email us at:
