In 2009 the Molly Fund asked the town of Marshfield to loan us the site of a defunct gas station in the middle of downtown Marshfield, so that we could create a park to honor not only Molly, but all the loved ones who were lost too soon.
With a dedicated team of friends and volunteers we took a ruin strewn vacant lot and transformed it into a beautiful, peaceful refuge and dedicated Dandelion Park on June 9th, 2010. June 9th was declared by Molly to be Dandelion Day- a day to spend with those you love and we could think of no better way to exemplify that spirit than to dedicate the park on Molly’s special day. At the front corner of the park is a small monument with Molly’s Dandy Day certificate there for all to see.
The Molly Fund hosts a number of events at the park including Stories in the Park (a reading program for young children every Tuesday night during the summer), pumpkin carving at Halloween and our much anticipated tree lighting ceremony during the holidays as well as many impromptu community events at the park. Although Dandelion Park was returned to the town at the dedication ceremony the Molly Fund does all the maintenance and care of the park, funded in part through the proceeds of our annual fundraising Molly Walk held every Father’s Day and partially from the sale of the memorial bricks that line the walkways of the park. If you are interested in a memorial brick you can order one through the store feature on our website.
